The seaport of Denia, in addition to being a major ferry terminal for the Balearic Islands has 20km of beach stretching along the
Mediterranean between Oliva to the north and Javea to the south. The coast alternates between sandy beaches and rocky coves. There is a major marina and sociable clubhouse. Denia sports marina has over 1,000 moorings with a minimum depth of 3m. The local area supports all forms of water sports. Including, in particular scuba diving, among the caves and indentations along the coast, sailing and windsurfing.
For the golfers, the area is served by La Sella, an 18 hole, 6,263 metre, par 72 course. In addition there is a sports centre with a riding school, 8 tennis courts, 2 squash courts, swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
Denia lies at the foot of the Montgo national park, with its orange and lemon groves and its historic sights dating back to Roman and Islamic times. The ancient castle dominates the town and the views obtained by standing upon its stone walls are breathtaking.
Denia serves as the local hub for entertainment, drawing happy laughing people from quieter towns and villages further inland. Towns such as cosmopolitan Els Poblets, Gata, renowned for basket weaving, Pedreguer, Benidoleig and Ondara lying in the Jalon Valley, Benissa standing high above the green valleys and sparkling Mediterranean below and Las Marinas on the seashore.
The international airports of Valencia and Alicante are both 100km from this area and there is the A5 motorway and Route National N332 just 11km away. In addition there is a narrow gauge railway that travels from Denia along the coast stopping at, among others, Javea, Calpe, Altea, Albir, El Campello and finally Alicante.
